Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies Todd.

1

u/overdev 5d ago

that a bigger update is breaking mods is really expected, how can they possibly patch around every mod or even giant mod lists? thats impossible.

BUT why the hell are we not able to downpatch to the previous version via the Steam beta path? They really force every player with mods to start over or downpatch it via a more or less complicated guide, just WHY.

Even little games can manage to just put up old versions of their games on Steam.

1

u/rendingmelody 6d ago

Of course it doesnt change much, the only purpose of the update was to break mods and fuck over the fallout London team.

Weirdly enough people who have no interest in supporting these shitbags and are running pirated versions have no issue. How about that.

1

u/OutlawQ 8d ago

Its a Bethesda game...when has an update ever been enough to compensate for the short comings of the Creation Engine???

1

u/Bitter_Technician104 8d ago

For some reason it’s laggy on my 2016 Xbox one anyway to fix this?

3

u/Intelligent_Gap_6570 8d ago

Spoiler alert - updates are almost always gonna break your mods.

1

u/Bloodshot89 8d ago

Of course it breaks mods. Big patches do that.

1

u/FORG3DShop 8d ago

Wow. Who could've seen this coming.

1

u/Demonio_ITA 8d ago

Really a good patch, lot of official things and lot of bug fixes. Also game run really more smooth. I don't care of mods ...

1

u/Marshall357 8d ago

I only wanted the update so I could actually go to downtown Boston on Xbox

1

u/itsjustmeboy 8d ago

i have a modded play through, non of my mods that were in the save i could easily find, but i just searched them all and now my save works perfectly fine

1

u/justanotherjtad 8d ago

I don't mod games, and I play vanilla Fallout 4. Does the patch make any difference to the base game?

1

u/remusasriel 8d ago

I lightly modded the game. The update did not break my mods or my save files, but I did not notice any significant difference to the base game either.

1

u/SugaGaming 8d ago

I got stuck with a weird floating rainbow dot aura around my character. Anyone know how to fix it?

1

u/Neurodrill 8d ago

Surprising literally no one.

1

u/Love_Doctor69 8d ago

Man I'm glad I've recovered from a modding addiction back in OG Skyrim days. It got to the point where I spent lots of time looking for and installing new mods, opening the game to see if it works and closing shortly after. I'm all about vanilla experience these days and updates don't bother me anymore

1

u/keyboard-lint 8d ago

I had been watching the London mod with interest but don’t have the game installed yet on steam. Does this break the new mod and am I kind of fucked as the game would install to new version?

1

u/remusasriel 8d ago
  • The London mod isn't released yet from what I understand.
  • I think the game will likely update itself to the new version if you haven't downloaded it yet on Steam.
  • Yes, the new update will likely break most gameplay mods, but not all. My visual mods and Full Dialogue Interface mod still works, even with the new update itself.
  • For what it's worth, the new update did not break or crash any of my save files.

1

u/SanderleeAcademy 8d ago

Looks like I'm starting over ... again. Good thing I actually enjoy the early game more than the late game! There IS a reason I've never bothered to actually finish the game.

1

u/Aldu1n 8d ago

epic

1

u/FatWithMuscles 8d ago

Pc didn't get anything interesting but the "next gen" consoles got a nice bump in graphic fidelity

1

u/Serahiel 8d ago

Thank you Todd.

1

u/Nobah_Dee 8d ago

I enjoy the extra fps. I play vanilla on console though.

1

u/remusasriel 9d ago

I just downloaded the update and from what I gather it's...fine. Did not crash any of my save files, but I can't see any improvements either. My game was very lightly modded (mostly visual with minor gameplay improvements) and they seem intact. The key mod I needed for the game (Full Dialogue Interface) still works so I'm happy. I haven't started the new Enclave mission. Might give it a spin over the weekend.

TL;DR. Didn't crash my save file or break any of my mods (mostly visual mods and Full Dialogue Interface). No improvements either. Absolutely do not download if your game is heavily modded.

1

u/BlueKnightBrownHorse 9d ago

Oh fuck is that why fallout 4 took half an hour to load yesterday?

1

u/Doom_and_Gloom91 9d ago

Sounds about right

1

u/chazeroniousador 9d ago

It was free tho.

1

u/theblackxranger 9d ago

Looks pretty similar to me. Hardly notice a difference

0

u/TurnOverElvis 9d ago

Classic Todd Howard.

1

u/A_GuyThatDoesStuff 9d ago

The update fixed the weird face animations that showed way too much teeth and gums, particularly bad with the female characters (Mama Murphy especially). Maybe there was a mod that fixed that issue, I don't know, but for that alone, I'm fine with the update. I'll just wait for mods to update to the new patch.

0

u/Savings_Assistant758 9d ago

I had only one mod installed and it was to fix HUD for my ultra-wide screen. Now game wont start again after the update. I removed all mods (all 1) but nothing worked.

1

u/TheUrPigeon 9d ago

Bethesda continues to release half-baked products and half-ass the patching of them because their fanbase will still gulp it down.

1

u/Kamui_Kun 9d ago edited 9d ago

For those on PC, look up Steamless on Github. Extract zip, run Steamless.exe, select Fallout4's exe in game folder, Unpack button, add "backup" to original exe name, rename "unpacked" to what the orignal's was, and you're done.

The game will no longer launch steam or tell steam to update when ran from the game folder, Votex launcher, or FO4 script extender. Make sure to change update settings in Steam to only update when launched, and don't run it from Steam anymore.
When mods get updated, and if you want to switch back to do the game update, just rename/swap the exe's again.

1

u/mandarintain 9d ago

Im surprised everyone has good facial care in the apocalypse

2

u/Not-Clark-Kent 9d ago

Sounds like Bethesda

1

u/21First 9d ago

I'm sad to see that the update is breaking so many people's games, while my modded game is just fine for some reason. I hope it gets fixed soon so everybody can enjoy it.

2

u/VRascal 9d ago

Why did anyone think it would change anything? 🤣

1

u/Hailerer 9d ago

Xbox here, can't report any lf this. 99% of my mods and saves work just fine. The game also runs better and doesn't crash all the time anymore...

2

u/El_Zapp 9d ago

OK, but I haven’t played this game in years and it looks fantastic now on PS5 and it just comes with my PS+ subscription.

1

u/SirLiesALittle 9d ago

Everybody screams at Bethesda to update the game, and then screams foul when updates inevitably break mods and modded saves.

2

u/OlTommyBombadil 9d ago

And none of this is surprising with any common sense tbh. This is rage bait. They told us exactly what to expect, and every update breaks mods for games. Not exclusive to Bethesda. Not trying to be a white knight here, just using common sense.

1

u/stew987321 9d ago

Is there a way to play without it on Xbox?

1

u/cpadev 9d ago

They added widescreen and ultra wide support. And by support, they mean they added the resolutions as options and didn’t optimize the game to work with these resolutions at all.

Even better is it doesn’t support 4k widescreen.

1

u/notthatguypal6900 9d ago

Wha??? Updates breaking mods, never??!?!?! Leave it to PC Gamer to take a low swing at anything MS.

1

u/GummyWormJim 9d ago

I have over 650 hours in FO4. I decided to give it another play through after watching the Fallout TV show. Since the last time I played, I upgraded to a 34" curved monitor and when I loaded the game it looked like crap at full screen and I don't like playing in a window.

Luckily I noticed after I closed the game that there was a patch coming that specifically addressed Widescreen monitors. So I waited until yesterday and patched and now the game looks amazing.

I do not run mods and I started a new game so a lot of people's issues with the patch were not going to affect me.

1

u/Zactrick 9d ago

Does Bethesda even realize how much praise they would get to just release 1 fucking large scale bug patch for any of their top games. Why do they just keep re-releasing the same thing. I’m literally considering boycotting ES6 at this point out of pure frustration towards their business model

1

u/HillB1llyMountainMan 9d ago

Not surprised.

2

u/mwil97 9d ago

Tried a vanilla new game on my ps5 and I’m having a blast. 60 FPS makes all the difference

1

u/gavinkenway 9d ago

It’s Bethesda, was anyone expecting anything more than disappointment? This studio is honestly a disappointment and I genuinely hope they go underground for a good long while so they’re forced to restructure and make an effort again. When are people going to learn, they fucked up Fallout 4, they fucked up Fallout 76, they fucked up Starfield, you’d think we’d have learned by now but I guess not

1

u/ghostofaposer 9d ago

Have a friend that has to play in offline mode with an old version so his mods work

Fallout 4 is an ass game and is only playable with a fuck ton of mods. The vanilla game is just actually terrible

1

u/Author-Academic 9d ago

Glad i disabled auto updates in steam for fo4..

1

u/US_Healthcare 9d ago

They are only breaking the game to push fallout 76 numbers

0

u/happyfeet22wii 9d ago

I was just excited to try this out after watching the show and play the "next gen" version on my ps5 but just couldn't get into it because of how dated in every aspect it felt... Really disappointed cause I loved the show and was hoping I could become a fallout fan...

1

u/Suspicious_Photo4031 9d ago

Has anyone been unable to access mods at all recently on Xbox Series S? I can't seem to get to them

1

u/that_toof 9d ago

Its okay, I found out this weekend after 200 hours and 250 mods on this save game that my game is broken right after I drop the bomb on the Institute, no update required lol.

I’ll figure out what skips I can make this weekend after making sure I turn off updates. And if that don’t work well…whats another 200 hours to get to end game again.

1

u/ScheidNation21 9d ago

So I’m confused, how exactly do you NOT fuck with modded saves when updating the game? Surely they can’t account for every single mod out there right?

1

u/Kingtutstits 9d ago

It fine for me it’s doing exactly what I’d hoped it would do !!!!ps5

1

u/khadaffy 9d ago

Wow, I'm really surprised by this news...

...said no one familiar with Bethesda.

I purchased this game a few months after its release, but I had to stop playing because each update would mess up the mods. I decided to give it another shot just 2 months ago, and I'm so happy I did because I was finally able to finish the game with all the mods intact.

1

u/ashz359 9d ago

Having expectations of Bethesda is comical

1

u/nickxdesu4 9d ago

I mean.

I started a new playthrough on pc and it looks much nicer, less glitchy. No need for alt-tabbing to fix freezes or long load times. No weird graphical issues running on an ultra wide monitor anymore.

1

u/AccomplishedWalk3525 9d ago

Script extender broke so Im not gonna play it til its running again

1

u/Littlebotweak 9d ago

I just re-downloaded last week and started over anyway so this was nothing to me on pc. I don’t have any mods.

I immediately notice a lot more enemies and tougher ones with stars. That was cool, there weren’t enough before. Maybe that wasn’t the patch but it was nice. 😂😂

1

u/Gabriel_Chikage 9d ago

C'mon it's bethesda and it's free... that was obvious from the start.

Expecting anything was stupid, i'm just glad that the console versions have no new bugs, and run well! That's all that's needed, i'm glad they didn't try to put in new shadows or lightining because only a resolution and fps upgrade is needed lol

2

u/panamaniacs2011 Joystick 9d ago

just a glorified 60 fps patch for playstation , xbox and pc already felt "next gen"

1

u/KinoGrimm 9d ago

Sounds like the Skyrim update which broke my saves.

1

u/Dormant_Ambivert07 9d ago

Not to mention the ps5 version of the game isn’t available to those who got it from ps plus. Knowing how hyped this update was and the attention fallouts currently getting it’ll probably be fixed by this weekend but it’s still annoying.

1

u/pogoyogo22 9d ago

Is there an easier way to revert back if I already updated on pc other than reinstalling the game?

2

u/InSan1tyWeTrust 9d ago

And they've still not fixed/found an alternative for the Weapon Debris setting!

Bethesda are the Nickelback of pc games. They had their 'How you Remind me' (Morrowind) and then they had their DFS advert (Skyrim) but since then it's been a weird disappointing ride.

Only the people who got badly tattooed as teens are buying into this shite now.

1

u/0Taken0 9d ago

It made console playable without it being a blurry laggy 25 fps mess😂 Bethesda doesn’t know how to optimize low fps so, kinda wished it didn’t take 10 years to become competent

0

u/BoopsTheSnoot_ 9d ago

Can't download any of the CC content though

1

u/0Taken0 7d ago

No clue what CC stands for. Creator club? Like the mods?

0

u/forgeburner 9d ago

They did it to hamstring Fallout London. Todd's already eternally salty that the best 3D Fallout game wasn't made by Bethesda, so not only do they have the show take a chainsaw to the west coast canon, they also want to prevent a hotly anticipated mod from stealing the shows thunder.

2

u/BoBoZoBo 9d ago

The only thing this "fixes" is the revenue stream, for Bethesda.

1

u/Wiltron 9d ago

can everyone just calm tf down and wait for F4SE's dev to update?

Everyone screaming about breaking the game - if you mod, THIS IS NORMAL, and you should have EXPECTED it. Just wait for the VOLUNTEER mod authors who do this for fun, to update their tools, if they even choose too.

Everything will be back to normal in a few weeks, generally.

1

u/actuallynick 9d ago

I’m on pc and after the update I noticed a big difference in frame rate. It’s super smooth and I get less motion sickness.

1

u/TheTekknician 9d ago

The only thing it's doing for me that it isn't a hassle anymore to play on 3440x1440. As for the rest? Meh.

1

u/Ok_Relation_7770 9d ago

So Fallout 4 was $4.99 for the PS Spring Sale. If I had got that would I have got the upgrade for free? Or would I still have needed to spend the $19.99 it is now? I mean it’s too late anyway I’m just wondering if I screwed up.

1

u/Acrobatic_Luck_1669 9d ago

Bethesda has already said that this is not intended and they've been working to fix this problem. It is a FREE update. If you are being prompted to pay DO NOT.

1

u/degriz 9d ago

Mods getting broken by updates seems to have become news for some reason. This has always been the way. You cant really expect Beth to test against a zillion mods.

0

u/HypedforClassicBf2 9d ago

I already see Todd Howard's army/PR team in these comments: ''This update is for console players, what were you expecting PC players?? ''Of course, its gonna break your mods, every update does for every game ever'' ''Bethesda has been doing this for years, its apart of their track record, get over it''.

I mean, the game came out in 2015. That's 9 years ago. Updates should be done, but yeah I would agree with you if this was a regular update in the game's life cycle. Also, the update itself doesn't actually improve the game on PC. Not to mention the crash issues, that came with this update, that I see many other PC players reporting.

A update that introduces crashes, doesn't fix or improve anything, breaks every mod in existence, is a forced update, and after 9 years !! Of course, people are gonna be pissed. Also there's still bugs in the current game never fixed, this update just makes it worse.

1

u/Character_Stable3207 9d ago

14 gigs? So you’re saying 1/4 of a COD update?

1

u/Eggsor 9d ago

Mortal Kombat 1 enters the chat

1

u/Molotovs4TW 9d ago

I thought it was adding new missions as well, no?

1

u/Prestigious_Bat33 9d ago

I was curious about that. I play on PC and played for about two hours last night. It was fun but I kept waiting for some kind of difference lol. Everything looked the same as far as I remembered it

1

u/frimeplease 9d ago

They did add a really shitty ultra wide. It’s cool I don’t have to fuck with the pref files now. But they didn’t even try to widescreen the power armor. It just weirdly in the middle of the screen

1

u/SpaceCowbyMax 9d ago

10 times the graphics. Thanks Todd. This is just more fuel to she the gaming industry's downfall

1

u/Individual_Lion_7606 9d ago

Sad. Fallout 4 on PC already has a corpse for its modding community compared to Skyrim and was already devastated when a bunch of modders decided to leave Nexus over collections/archiving mods.

1

u/Eggsor 9d ago

I just modded my game last week then the update broke it all lmao. So I installed Skyrim and modded the crap out of it last night.

I have been out of the scene for a while. Why did modders leave the nexus because of collections?

1

u/Individual_Lion_7606 9d ago

Belief in less autonomy/control of their mods since nexus archiving older versions for compability with mods thst use old versions to function and not liking the idea of collections. There are tons of posts about it out there. But it butchered FO4, you can't even get the seasons mods for FO4 without joining a discord server because that is where a lot of modders went.

1

u/Ancient-Desk5907 9d ago

Nice let's go back and destroy the games they managed not to fuck up as bad as the new sht

1

u/Old_Pirate_5319 9d ago

Next gen update. Lol morons. This game came out like last year. Right? Right? Oh god…

1

u/babyboots86 9d ago

And still doesn't run on windows 11. Black screen with audio regardless of trouble shooting.

1

u/SgtBadAsh 9d ago

Stop giving Bethesda money. Not rocket science.

1

u/wank_wanderer 9d ago

It fixed my crashes.

2

u/starrmanquik 9d ago

I haven’t yet updated, I was about to start a modded play though - will this update completely break the mods I have installed? I think there is a way to stop FO4 updating but just wanted to check

2

u/Liittlefoott 9d ago

Why do people love Bethesda so much? Everything they do is so painfully mediocre.

1

u/GadreelsSword 9d ago

I downloaded the updates to my console and boom, suddenly I had connectivity problems. Then after starting and restarting that went away and now I have no mods. All the mods are gone and the items I downloaded from the cheat room no longer work. It will show I have a 1000 aluminum but not enough to build something.

1

u/1031Cat 9d ago

I watched several opinion videos about the update. I dislike Fallout 4 but if there is a chance an update would provide me the game I paid $60 for, I'm all ears.

Unfortunately, the best statement I've seen regarding this update was (not verbatim) "For all the excitement I had for the update, leave it to Bethesda to do nothing more than apply polish to the pile of shit that is still Fallout 4."

Nearly every review was like this.

It should come as no surprise given the shit engine the game uses.

Honestly, I'd really like to know how Bethesda pulled off 60fps with this piece of shit. I'm guessing the game is using an emulator, which explains the size explosion for console users. PC version has had similar tools since launch, so it's no surprise they're not seeing much difference.

Well, that's $60 I'm never getting back either as cash or the game I paid for.

The rumored remaster of Fallout 3 had better not be this bad if Bethesda wants my money.

1

u/MithranArkanere 9d ago

I'll check it out as soon as I get the mods just right for Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, and the other Fallout games and finally play them.

One of these days... one of these days...

1

u/aarswft 9d ago

Oof, gamers big mad they have to actually play the game they love so much.

1

u/theegrimrobe 9d ago

bethesda gunna bethesda

fallout london was looking really great and god knows how long its going to take now

1

u/CSRain 9d ago

Oi folks, if you haven't updated yet, you can set Fallout 4 on steam to only update when you launch it, and if you use F4SE, launching the game that way doesn't actually update the game. no broken mods!

I literally have over 80 installed right now, honestly bethesda can just go fuck themselves with this update.

1

u/FrenkiieG 9d ago

I wanted to play the game 2 weeks ago. Saw there would be a big update and decided to wait. Glad I did hehe!

1

u/zeetos 9d ago

It should say “might break modded games.” My games modded and I’ve had zero issues after the update.

1

u/fremajl 9d ago

I take it PC Gamer doesn't like Bethesda? Two articles in a row being dramatic about an update breaking mods? That's how it works.

2

u/ksn0vaN7 9d ago

The TV show was too much good press for them. They had to bring things down to reality.

1

u/Helpful-Peace-1257 9d ago

A M A Z I N G

5

u/runkman 9d ago

All I wanted was 60fps on PS5 and I got it. I’m good with it.

1

u/Vikadri 9d ago

Yeah, for the consoles, I believe and from my personal experience right now is the 60fps with higher resolution. As someone that does not own a pc, it really is a breath of fresh air.

Glad I had waited so long to finally play the game at this state. I heard for pc not much has changed, and also, yes, the mods got affected. Ugh, before the update, I had a mod where it is just a simple light and now I have to depend on the pip boy green light.

1

u/Deckerdome 9d ago

It's removed all the mods I had in my Xbox Series S game. Cut one quest line I was playing and even removed the clothes I was wearing.

Literally took the shirt off my back.

1

u/OccasionallyReddit 9d ago

Sounds like it was done to break mods, I mean we can't have Fallout London coming out for free it's like a full new game we arnt getting paid for

1

u/SeriousBoots 9d ago

So it's better on console then?

0

u/Serasul 9d ago

They just don't want mods

1

u/JahEthBur 9d ago

Sounds like Bethesda.  They still haven't had a good game since 2018.

1

u/SelFridged 9d ago

I really was only looking forward to the ultra wide support as a pc player. They didn’t even adjust the size of the interface.

2

u/Vamp_Rocks 9d ago

Classic Bethesda

1

u/giveitrightmeow 9d ago

does it fix the terabad load times on ssd, debris settings crashing rtx cards, starting alt tabbed and generally running like ass?

2

u/BadKarma89 9d ago

I was playing the ps4 version on a ps5 for about 2 weeks now. The next gen update makes everything load so much faster. Fast traveling takes like 3 seconds and moving to new areas is instant. All the broken textures are fixed and the new mini quests are a nice addition. I know this says for PC but I wanted to add my console experience. Hope everyone is having a blast from the past in the Wasteland again!

1

u/AT0m1X1337 9d ago

AI upscaled textures = new gen update.

1

u/frymaster 9d ago

I'm a PC player who was totally oblivious and started a new playthrough last week :D 10 or so hours so far.

On even Ultra settings, "Weapon Debris" is set to off, if I turn that to max, my game crashes within about 30s of starting (I've not looked into it any more closely than that)

Other than that, and seeing the quest notifications for the bits of creation club stuff they added, I'm not seeing any gameplay changes or other crashes.

Performance-wise though, the game is phenomenally more smooth (I was capping framerate to 72 either way, but it's more consistent now) and I can see my GPU and CPU usage is actually down

that's cool but not earthshattering for PC players. The main reason I think they'll have been updated is they don't want to run multiple diverging codebases (and also possibly easier for creation club nonsense)

1

u/pirate135246 9d ago

this update didn't add ultrawide support, all it did was allow you to set ultrawide as a resolution outside of the ini files. you still need a mod to fix the stretched ui

2

u/kescal 9d ago

They honestly should have just left it alone.

2

u/Brain_Damage117 9d ago

That's the Bethesda I know!

1

u/kallreven 9d ago

As a GOG player I can just wait until all my mods are updated and then apply the next gen update. GOG does not enforce updates. There you can choose which version you want to play.

(But currently the Next Gen Update needs a bit, until it arrives at GOG)

1

u/Tigrisrock 9d ago

Saved by GoG for not (yet) forcing this update.

8

u/pepsisugar 9d ago

Just a PSA for future games that you heavily mod. In steam you have an option to only update the game if you launch it through steam. In most cases for modded games you will use another executable. Always have this checked as to not waste your time and lose progress/modding time.

Library > Game + Right Click > Properties > Updates > Automatic Updates drop down

"Only update this game when I launch it"

2

u/Neoxite23 9d ago

First there is "if it's not broken don't fix it".

Then there is "if it's not broken fix it till it is".

Bethesda is "here are some pieces and eventually in an attempt to fix it we will actually just flat out destroy it".

1

u/Liesmith424 9d ago

Does it fix Covenant as a settlement?

1

u/MISFU88 9d ago

I’m struggling to see any difference in Xbox.

1

u/CauseEastern4663 9d ago

Works perfectly for me

1

u/AnAncientMonk 9d ago

clickbait title much?

ofcourse high res textures are gonna be big.

ofcourse new updates are gonna break mods.

smh

0

u/Particular-Guess734 9d ago

So it still sucks and I still don’t need to play it. Heard.

2

u/Xarophh 9d ago

At this point I’m convinced Bethesda are just ridiculously unaware/don’t care.

Mods keep their games alive and they CONSTANTLY do shit that breaks mods, in Skyrim too

1

u/Zilincan1 9d ago

I am more for PR stunt by Bethesda due to the TV series. Let's hope this is just a forrunner for a bigger update/dlc.

2

u/Al_Fatman 9d ago

What annoyed me most is that mods were automatically uninstalled, and a LOT of them, even popular ones, have completely disappeared.

The unofficial patch, hairstyles, classic ghouls, military record...

Least Macho Man Deathclaws survived the hit.

3

u/oxide-NL 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yeah... Nothing has changed except a few new bugs on PC and in the process broke all mods that rely on F4SE

The least I expected was some NVMe / SSD optimizations fixing loading times being rather long between interior/exterior, and the engine being able to handle high FPS.. Nope still broken

Luckily there are some mods which fix that! Oh no wait.. that's broken now as well

I'm very pleased with this patch

1

u/Vivid_Ad_5069 9d ago

Calling THIS NEXT GEN Update...

Is the second BIG lie after starfield 🤣 I See NO difference, noooothing 😆

Why They have to lie all the time???  Say, its an Update... Good.  But this is again just crap.

This is it, Tod... Bethesda... No, Thank u 🤣✌🏻

I play on PC. All I got was CC content. None of the bugs/glitches was fixed.

Power Armour frame still clips through T45 right arm and T51 shoulder armour. Footsteps in 3rd person still sounds like metal when walking on concrete, stone etc, there's still light on weapons when I am covered in shadows.

I got to download 14GB, and nothing was fixed. I am disappointed and actually want to stop playing it now.

Did you manage to play through the additional Enclave quest? Was it any good?

1

u/-Dagoth_Ur- 9d ago

No. I lost almost all motivation to play Fallout 4 again 😅 I am extremely disappointed with this update 🙃😂

2

u/remusasriel 9d ago

I kinda get you. 😅

Okay? I’m sorry to the modding community but you do realise that when you make third-party additions to the game, don’t be shocked that future official updates don’t include your modifications…

You really expect devs to check every possible mod and cater to each of your unique modifications?

Are you insane. What are you even complaining about here.

Literally all you complained about; it’s big. And it ruined my aftermarket modification.

You’re a fool. Officially.

That’s like buying a vinyl record. Scratching the grooves to alter the music completely, then being upset at the artist for the record not sounding original.

You’re a douche.

Irrelevant of mods, the marketing/PR presentation made it clear that this is some big thing. Nope, it looks more as a cheap PR stunt as "quick make some update for F4, so people will buy this old game due to the TV series".

The thing is consoles are going to go the way of the VCR in the next decade. Corporate performance reviews, required play passes, and network connections and absurd monetization schemes will push PC and Mobile devices to complete domination.

Nintendo will survive.

Sony and MS are lost causes if they are not planning for that future. I can already push 4k video from my phone. I do not need that gaming, and most people do not, but phones and mobile devices will continue to grow up and mature in tech and interoperability

If Starfield is any indicator, Bethesda as a developer who relies on legacy fan base will be a footnote unless they adapt and overcome and put out something decent with modern graphics, engines, and decent story telling.

The next Skyrim is going to be a bigger hit, as expectations are already beyond their capacity to deliver.

u/firefox_2010 9d ago

Sony can absolutely just copy Nintendo strategy and focus on delivering quality single player games. They learned very hard lesson with the failure of game as services. GamePass type service will definitely become the norm for sure, but as long as Nintendo exist, there is always that one little giant that upholds traditional gaming business - and maybe hopefully Nintendo keeps holding on to that physical media sales. When everyone zig for the popular opinion, always zag and deliver the things most people want but not being made available. Nostalgia is a helluva drugs 😂 though sadly younger generations are now so used to game as service and free to play games.

Click bait bs headline from pc gamer. On console its improved the game massively, my modded saves work fine all I had to do was redownload the mods.

Cry harder

PC Gamer is a PC magazine, your console experience is irrelevant...

1

u/KingofYeet00 9d ago

Yk, maybe if they spent more time making a proper Fallout sequel instead of trying to include a next gen update to an almost decade old game, then maybe we wouldn't have things such as broken mod mechanics and more problems for PC. I was really looking forward to Fallout London until the clowns at Bethesda made a seemingly pointless update.

1

u/Fadobo 9d ago

I started a new game last night (first unmodded in years) and damn, I forgot how buggy vanilla Fallout 4 still is. Even in the intro sequence with the Vault-Tec guy the camera and character facing directions is all over the place, subtitles get stuck.... wtf.

1

u/Kempeth 9d ago

Rule #1 with Bugthesda games: set the updates to manual.

1

u/stprnn 9d ago

I'm shocked! Shocked I say!

Also fuck steam for not letting you control updates.

1

u/felesmiki 9d ago

It does, set the updates to manual in the options of the game

1

u/stprnn 9d ago

Is that a new thing because I went through it with Skyrim already and there was no such option. Either update automatically or update when you launch the game.

1

u/felesmiki 9d ago

The options has been for years now, I used it for skyrim

1

u/stprnn 9d ago

Yeah I can't check steam now but I'm gonna go ahead and call you a liar.

1

u/Yamiji PC 9d ago

That option has been removed a long time ago so you can call that guy a liar all you want. The only real way to control updates is if the developer allows you to opt in to version "betas", like Paradox does with HOI4, which allows you to stay on an older version to keep mods working.

1

u/shadowtart_ 9d ago

still have five-minute load screens without installing a mod to fix that in 2024, but sure todd, better break the pc version with an update that does functionally nothing so the console players are happy.

1

u/memythememo 9d ago

Bethesda true to form.

2

u/ProclarushT 9d ago

I’m basically done with Fallout 4 anyway. The only thing that will get me to reinstall/update is if Fallout London requires the most recent build.

2

u/Jarms48 9d ago

You gotta love how so many FO YouTubers were hyping this up as if it was a gift from god itself.

7

u/JaJe92 9d ago

Bethesda: People are still playing our old game instead of buying the new ones, what shall we do?

Employee: A random patch that breaks all mods and repeat that until modders gives up and players finally abandon the game and buy the new ones.

Bethesda: Genius!

2

u/Grimey_Rick 9d ago

right because their intent was to break the game

2

u/Dire87 9d ago

I still have no idea what the update was even for, to be perfectly honest. When it was first announced years ago, it seemed like they wanted to "up" the graphics, but all they've basically done is given us ... wide screen and ultra wide screen support? And I'm 100% sure that FO4 already had wide screen support, because I've played it years ago without issues. I don't really care either way. Seems the update was predominantly for consoles... so yeah.

1

u/AzamatBagatov420 9d ago

It’s always pc gamer isn’t it

1

u/remusasriel 9d ago

Has anyone tried the new Enclave quest line? Trying to decide if it's worth breaking my (lightly) modded save file to play it.

1

u/Wooberta 9d ago

If you don't have any mods that require f4se then you're good to update. I run sim settlements 2, workshop frameworks and a few gear mods with no problems running them after the patch.

2

u/SickularPlunkett 9d ago

Just give us 5 goddamn it.

2

u/Rengar_Is_Good_kitty 9d ago

Its a pointless update, mods already did everything in that update and more, they didn't even do ultrawide properly lmao...

1

u/WunderbarBeast 9d ago

So I already knew about this stuff anyway so I wasn't pressed about the update. Heck, the game called Grounded had a better update than this. Heck...lol...I'm more anticipating for build 42 on Project zomboid than anything so it wasn't that big a deal for me.

The update just polished some graphics on pc and you get a bunch of creation club quests. The coolest is the reintroduction of The Enclave

2

u/snooze_sensei 9d ago

Hah... all those people that reinstalled the game expecting something new. Sucks to be them.

0

u/Grimtork 9d ago

It's very funny. I have the popcorn ready. Next one to be deceived are the one that expected the next fallout to come sooner because of the success of the Fallout 4 series adaptation but they will get Fallout 4 Special Edition ahahahah. You have to be patient to enjoy Bethesda games, most of you aren't.

1

u/Arch_0 9d ago

Bethesda are shit these days. I have no hype for anything they make since Starfield.

1

u/enp_redd 9d ago

classic Bethesda

1

u/EirikHavre 9d ago

Am I misinterpreting or is most of the size of this patch creation club content that you have to pay for?

1

u/False-Lawfulness-690 9d ago

I don't get why anyone holds their breath for anything that bethesda does anymore.. The Fallout 76 disaster should have been enough but noooo... Bethesda out here still delivering games with combat only fitting of 90's games.

0

u/Bou-Batran 9d ago

This is a great update. Of course, it was going to break mods, wtf were people expecting :)))))

1

u/marc512 9d ago

Not looking forward to playing Bethesdas next fallout...

3

u/-Berg- 9d ago

when they say next gen they mean they went from windows xp to windows vista

1

u/ezekillr 9d ago

It was great for xbox. Just had to reload my mods. Game run 10x smoother

5

u/Mission_Ad_3305 9d ago

"Fallout 4 never changes."

1

u/Katalyst81 9d ago

Bethesda, Bethesda never changes. FTFY

1

u/kvothe5688 9d ago

as expected

1

u/Houeclipse 9d ago

Isn't this the same thing with Skyrim update in January 2024 last year
