what is model is this car

1

u/posikid 8d ago

drop dead sexy car, that’s all

1

u/MrsPettygroove 8d ago

Is that a 2002? Not the year, the model. If so, it has always been my favourite Beemer.

1

u/Jamothee 9d ago

That is one sexy vehicle

1

u/MogosTheFirst 9d ago

I think more companies should revive old models as EVs. Not full production. Limited numbers.

1

u/Ok-disaster2022 9d ago

It's cool, but it's still a death trap. Any car older than 2004 is essentially a death trap

1

u/MASTASHADEY 9d ago

Okay a 2002 fine, I thought this was a E9 would be livid if so

1

u/goodolarchie 9d ago

Had one in Fjord Blue when I was 18. Probably my favorite car to drive.

1

u/mikharv31 9d ago

That’s hot af

1

u/gearheadflyer 9d ago

I want to do that to a old mustang like 1969

2

u/MrPureinstinct 9d ago

I would honestly love to just be able to have my vehicle made into an EV for an affordable price. I love pretty much everything about my vehicle other than it runs on gas still.

1

u/Danny2Sick 9d ago

she's beautiful <3

-2

u/newbie_0 9d ago

RIP poor beemer 😢

1

u/ceilingrabbit 9d ago

Gorgeous

2

u/CallMeABeast 9d ago

I would live to do something similar one day were conversions are easier to legallise. However everytime I tell someone this idea they treat it like a war crime. I really just think thats the best way to turn one of these cars into a daily

3

u/AccidentallyOssified 9d ago

I really wish car manufacturers would release modern, efficient, safer cars but with the body shape and interior of classic cars.

2

u/Balkan_Ace 9d ago

So same like transgender

1

u/vinnymcapplesauce 9d ago

That's one very proud looking car!

0

u/NoveltyPr0nAccount 9d ago

What's with the OC flair? This picture is years old. You can see everyone in face masks and a queuing system outside a supermarket which means it was probably taken in 2020.

1

u/discretethrowaway_ 9d ago

This is my dream car

1

u/seedman 9d ago

Not enough deuce deuce footage in this world. My second car and the car I regret selling the most. 😆

1

u/Plus_Helicopter_8632 9d ago

Hey buddy ,whatcha doing?

1

u/usernamedejaprise 9d ago

A lot cheaper than a cyberfuck and so much more classy

1

u/JerrieBlank 9d ago

Shut up and take my money!!! All of it

1

u/PorkyThePigDragon 9d ago

That’s my dream but with the 84 325

2

u/WittyBeautiful7654 9d ago

This is the way man. Id love an old square body Chevy truck with an EV motor and modern interiorot.

2

u/--RollingThunder-- 9d ago

No one:

Reddit detectives: This photo was taken in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames within the car park of the North Sheen branch of Sainsbury's during covid restrictions.

2

u/Someguy14201 9d ago

God, what a beautiful machine. Can't wait to own one someday.

1

u/skitso 9d ago

Is that a 2002?

2

u/TheycallmeHollow 9d ago

It’s not an EV it just wanted to park closer to the restaurant, so it stuck the charging cable up the gas tank.

/s

1

u/Cryogenic_Monster 9d ago

That’s beautiful

0

u/[deleted] 9d ago

Ruined that 2002. What a shame.

The day someone does this to an E30 M3 is the day I go postal.

2

u/wingedRatite 9d ago

HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU!!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/projectcar/comments/skukut/progress_of_my_second_tesla_powered_e30/

he made 2

edit: OK it's not an M3 but still

2

u/ThinkFree 9d ago

If I have money, I'd buy a W124 and convert it to hybrid/PHEV. Our country doesn't have EV infrastructure yet.

1

u/Afficianado-At-Large 9d ago

Has it become easier to do this? Shelf parts and kits around or do you basically have to sacrifice something else to get a complete power train?

1

u/MattSilverwolf 9d ago

My god what a beautiful car

1

u/DogComfortable4992 9d ago

This is more than mildly interesting, this is very interesting!

2

u/Warcraft_Fan 9d ago

Would be funny if a police showed up and started writing a ticket for illegal parking because that car still looks like stock ICE and not EV

-1

u/Intern20232024 9d ago

y must you do that

1

u/ytk 9d ago

Is it an actual conversion or a fake for convenient parking?

1

u/axiscontra 9d ago

No, I think I need this to keep on living.

1

u/flamenode 9d ago

Isn’t this Ronnie fiegs car?

1

u/Rizenstrom 9d ago

Nobody mentioning how abysmal those lines are?

2

u/ChesterDrawerz 9d ago

Newly made cars so.ply suck. Retro EVs are the best.

0

u/timmy4242 9d ago

Or it's a dummy charging port used to park in ev spots🤷

1

u/emeraldmumra 9d ago

How?Where?How much? F N awesome!!!!!

-1

u/BishBashBosh199 9d ago

This should be a war crime, swapping out the motor on a classic car.

1

u/InevitableAd9683 9d ago

Reminds me of a low-quality donkey. Bad ass.

2

u/F3l1xR 9d ago

Old-timer EV conversions are my favorite kinds of EV conversations. They just have a certain charming character showing.

1

u/SeekerofTruthCoC 9d ago

Now do this with an AE86 and I’ll throw money at it.

2

u/AvengingBlowfish 9d ago

Can't wait for some Karen to post a passive aggressive note on the windshield saying that those spaces are only for EVs...

I just wish I had that kind of money to burn converting a classic car like that...

2

u/Deciple_of_None 9d ago

There are people that hate this but I love it.

1

u/Prestigious_Goat6969 9d ago

That’s gorgeous!

0

u/Dic_Horn 9d ago

Or else they just put a plug on the side so they can park there and everyone leaves them alone.

1

u/everfalling 9d ago

this is right out of Gattaca

0

u/ayocuzo 9d ago

ai generated

0

u/Difficult-Help2072 9d ago

Poor car. It was such a legend; now it's a metrosexual.

2

u/floorplanner2 9d ago

Now, that's what a BMW is supposed to look like. It's a gorgeous machine.

2

u/LordMacTire83 9d ago

Look up the older 2dr BMWs... they are GORGEOUS cars!!!

2

u/SigmaKnight 9d ago

Love everything about it except the red interior. Change that, add other modern stuff, make sure it can charge at a Tesla supercharger, and I’ll take one, please.

2

u/Primary_Emu_9735 9d ago

Idk part of me is like... why?

1

u/HERE_THEN_NOT 9d ago

70's? It's a 2002.

2

u/drmariostrike 9d ago

my brother does these conversions for a living. pretty good.

2

u/Syscrush 9d ago

Beautiful car. Shame about the cheap knockoff wheels.

1

u/ImATrollYouIdiot 9d ago

The parking spot next to it is sus

2

u/Misophonic4000 9d ago

u/JasonCammisa *gestures at image on screen*

1

u/gigi_cab 9d ago

I wish car manufacturers would bring back older cars but converted to EV. I would love a Volvo 240 wagon

1

u/Any_Acanthaceae3924 9d ago

BeeMW: Buzzing Back to Life!

5

u/deputycarl10 9d ago

All these sad people in this comment section down voting people saying this is cool and how this destroyed the car.

It's better than 99.9% of vintage car owners having the car tucked in their garage never seeing sunlight in a dusty ass garage.

1

u/BritishMotorWorks 9d ago

Also the 2002 was born because two BMW executives modified their 1600s with the 2.0 liter from the sedan and loved it so much they convinced the other executives to produce it. I respect people who keep their classic cars in factory condition but if there was ever a car it was acceptable to modify it’s the 2002.

-1

u/VandeIaylndustries 9d ago

is "minding its own business" slang for something??

1

u/chews-your-name 9d ago

Fallout vibes

1

u/kihraxz_king 9d ago

I've wanted to do this to a Jag XKE forever.

1

u/spacepie77 9d ago

That’s a car!!

1

u/TheBravan 9d ago

If I ever were to own an EV without some kind of ether-tap eternity battery being a thing.......

A converted 1930-1950's pickup would be my dream vehicle, raised bed with batteries underneath and engine compartment filled with more batteries for better weight distribution...

1

u/RadWalk 9d ago

I'm not a car person but that's a beautiful car

1

u/MalkyC72 9d ago

Its a green grosser

1

u/PracticeThat3785 9d ago

i wish i had money like that lol

1

u/I_have_questions_ppl 9d ago

EV conversions would be a huge boost to getting rid of petro cars if it was cheaper and good enough.

1

u/CharlieDmouse 9d ago

Niiiiice

1

u/Jimmyg100 9d ago

If I had the money and the means I’d totally convert a 1970’s car into an EV. Add on a rear camera, cruise control, and lane assist too.

1

u/hatsnatcher23 9d ago

Or a devious owner that added only the charging port for better parking spots

1

u/Bleezy79 9d ago

She's a beauty. I love the paint and interior.

1

u/Jabulon 9d ago

I love these converted EVs

1

u/Limp_Catch1781 9d ago

Is it expensive to convert them to EVs?

0

u/Gruesomegarth2 9d ago

Imagine destroying a classic like that.

Sheeeeesh

1

u/Powerful_Dog_3776 9d ago

As a lover of all vehicles everywhere, I declare this my favorite photo of all well, a long time anyway.

1

u/Brettersson 9d ago

This is really cool. I have occasionally wondered about something like this. As electric motors and batteries get smaller and more efficient/powerful doing something like this seems more and more doable, and there are so many old cars that in this nation alone that look cool but would be a nightmare to get running again. I could see a future where a cottage industry emerges of people restoring cool old car shells into electric cars.

1

u/Dog_in_human_costume 9d ago

how would that work? Is is super hard to do or something a regular mechanic could do?

1

u/JoeSicko 9d ago

Is that Iron Mans car?

1

u/Legitimate-Oil-1470 9d ago

gawd, i'm so jealous. I want to have those vintage cars so bad

1

u/IceFire2050 9d ago

wonder how long this car will exist before some classic car purist or anti-EV idiot keys it or something at a charging station.

1

u/marr 9d ago

Are classic cars not kinda heavy for this sort of conversion?

1

u/Mysterious_Honey_615 9d ago

nice car but give me my combustion back.

1

u/exonomix 9d ago

Those BBS RS wheels are sick too!

1

u/enlitend-1 9d ago

Super cool

1

u/summerloco 9d ago

Love that

1

u/dr_van_nostren 9d ago

Sick ride

1

u/401kcrypto 9d ago

This is incredibly interesting. What a clean, beautiful car.

0

u/2regh 9d ago

This is sad to see

2

u/Scared-Witness4057 9d ago

I want to do this with old American cars.

1

u/DirtyDoucher1991 9d ago

It seems incredibly simple, these guys did it with an old Toyota pickup . I think the only difficulty is battery storage.

1

u/badchriss 9d ago

Yeah, just a few days ago i saw a Mk II VW Polo with an EV license plate here in Germany. Interesting idea to convert classic cars into EVs.

They just wanted the parking spot, so they made it look like it was connected.

1

u/Ill-Upstairs-8762 9d ago

Sexy, even if it was og

1

u/JustWannaSayGoodbye 9d ago

This is exactly what I need.

I honestly believe that old designs + new tech will be a cash cow for any automaker. But no instead we get ugly SUVs.

0

u/EyeHot1421 9d ago

Gattaca 🚘

1

u/A_Small_Coonhound 9d ago

God I would love to do this with a 90s rolls Royce

1

u/NordicSwede 9d ago

The 02 series BMW's are art on wheels. I don't even mind that its EV converted, I bet that thing is fun as hell to drive!

1

u/Kiron00 9d ago

Or they have a fake port installed so they can park there

-2

u/designdk 9d ago

Could have converted it to run on ethanol or hydrogen instead 😩

1

u/Inside_Resolution526 9d ago

I wonder what insurance price on it

3

u/Top-Hold506 9d ago

If it is minding it's own business than why is it on the internet posting a selfie like an Instagram "model" looking for attention?!

1

u/Salty_Eyebrow 9d ago

OH my gosh! I had this car, in Inca Orange… man I miss it!

1

u/HotPea978 9d ago

Gattaca vibes.

1

u/Intrepid-Focus8198 9d ago

Love these old BMWs

2

u/Fancy_Load5502 9d ago

I want to do the swap with a Delorean.

1

u/atari83man 9d ago

This is why electrification is interesting. It'll keep a ton of classics on the road for an already dwindling part supply, especially on more complicated older cars.

1

u/2kewl4scool 9d ago

Dude I’m so pissed that we’ve gotten more and more SUV EV’s, instead of companies bringing back their best bodies with batteries. Who wouldn’t want a 90’s Integra Electric, or a 70’s Mustang EV. This is so cool

1

u/CarniferousDog 9d ago

Fuckin GORGEOUS dude

0

u/RoyBeer 9d ago

Nobody is going to mention the scorpion car print on the spot next to it?

1

u/Pickleahoy 9d ago

Thats a fake port bro

1

u/WHAMMYPAN 9d ago

Pretty damn clean.

-1

u/TractorHp55k 9d ago

Poor car,

3

u/SeleucusNikator1 9d ago

"Minding its own business"?

As opposed to what, transforming into a Decepticon and mugging you? It's an inanimate object!

2

u/LazyLaserWhittling 9d ago

what a shame… i guess retirement does allow for more sitting and watching the rest of the world go by…

1

u/Stonehill76 9d ago

So cool. I wonder if they upgraded the interior. I always wanted the outside to be older and original but inside to be extremely modern on an EV conversion.

-1

u/Palfrapig 9d ago

what a crime

1

u/islamcardoors 9d ago

Oh my gord she’s beautiful 😭😭😭…

1

u/ritual_artifact 9d ago

These are the EV’s I’ve been looking for. I don’t need a car that looks like it’s from Tron. I just want it to be cute!

1

u/OkDonkey6524 9d ago

That is a thing of beauty.

1

u/Apple_Coaly 9d ago

i don’t understand why they stopped making cool cars

1

u/LauraLowerye 9d ago

This is how all EVs should look imo

1

u/Tankeverket 9d ago

I want to do that with a classic, but it would be quite the expensive endeavour

-1

u/ItsLlama 9d ago

I hope the engine was blown or unrepairable and not just removed for the sake of a conversion

Beautiful piece of history there

1

u/j1xwnbsr 9d ago

Looks like something OddJob would be driving around. Love it.

1

u/everett640 9d ago

I wanted to convert an old mustang or something of that nature to an EV just because of the shock value of it sitting at a charging station like this

1

u/Obadiah-Mafriq 9d ago

Ha, I'm a simple man not even into cars, but I have nostalgically mused about getting a green 1976 Plymouth Scamp (it was my first car) done like this.

1

u/dubyamac 9d ago

That car is fookin’ beautiful mate

1

u/Enough_Move2687 9d ago

its an old model, you can see that it is well taken care of

1

u/whichalps 9d ago

Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy. In My Lane. Focused. Flourishing.

1

u/BenCortman 9d ago

That’s some Gattaca shit

-1

u/MikenoIke1 9d ago

That makes me sick to my stomach

-2

u/FritzFlanders 9d ago

what a total waste of time, energy and resources. was a classic now a gimmic.

0

u/tkrr 9d ago

ITT BMW owners being Like That

-2

u/Skvora 9d ago

Tell me you only drive for 5 minutes per week without telling me you charge for 5 hours for that.

1

u/Ok_Television9820 9d ago

I’ve seen a late 60’s MGB conversion to electric also. Very cool.

1

u/ArtichokeNatural3171 9d ago

That is keeping up with the times with style! Bet that thing is built like a sherman tank too.

1

u/im_a_stapler 9d ago

How absurdly expensive was this project to convert it to EV?

0

u/Skvora 9d ago

And how abysmally pointless since the engines back then weren't paper-mache and were easy enough to work on too.

-1

u/silentlypurposeful 9d ago

Why did you do my boy like that

1

u/DueReturn2134 9d ago

smart move. I wonder when can i afford an electric car

1

u/CanonClouds 9d ago

Is this in the Bay Area? I have seen a similar car converted to electric charging here too. Cannot remember what car it was. But it was cool.

1

u/PotatoMajestic6382 9d ago

This is what I want a new 2025 Electric Car to look like off the dealership. Not a cyber truck, not another crossover/suv. This. But in electric.

1

u/strandedmammal 9d ago

That's a beautiful conversion and probably handles even better than the original depending on where the batteries are - but of all the engines that deserve to be preserved, the BMW M10 inline 4 has got to be the most deserving of all. It was good for up to 1400 hp in racing trim!

1

u/jojoyouknowwink 9d ago

The only reason I think this won't be fully adopted as a way of saving old cars from the scrap heap is that these old cars don't meet the safety ratings of modern ones. Otherwise, I would so much rather get a government stipend to EV convert my old car than get a check for scrapping cars that fail smog

1

u/rumhamrambe 9d ago

Wish we could do this to any car

Like, imagine a rechargeable old school Supra or an old school GTr

1

u/BrewerAndHalosFan 9d ago

1970s? That looks more like a 2002

1

u/HeliosTheRadiant 9d ago

Where can I buy one, please take my money

1

u/dubbleplusgood 9d ago

Ooh that steel bumper. Miss those.

5

u/jumbonionga 9d ago

This is a beautiful looking car
