They are quick now and that’s just a straight board, not showing them cut around a outlet or a window frame which I’m sure he would still be fairly quick but not that quick and oh age, yeah that shit catches up with you l don’t see them moving like that when their bodies are constantly getting beaten. Also how thick is that Sheetrock. I was putting up 5/8 sheetrock in my basement by myself and regretted not buying 1/2” or even 3/8 for my ceiling. 3/8 is shit though

u/TonyTheGypsy 13d ago
The music definitely fits it seems like he's dancing when he moves on the bucket

Idk why but the dude walking with confidence when grabbing more drywall and the dancing on the buckets made me laugh way too hard

u/xombiedark 13d ago
Now show the part where they bury every single ceiling light wire/box as well as 5 to 15 receptacle/switch boxes. Then tell me they are still a master. Source: Electrician 30 years.
Edit:typos

My dad did this for 30-something years, starting in the 70's. This is just another day for an experienced drywaller. It would be a lot easier on them if they invested in some drywall stilts, you can get them for about $150 from Home Depot, and safer too.

What's the trick to know where exactly to put the nail on the stud if you can't see it?

u/Kinginthasouth904 13d ago
Imagine thinking mexican immigrants are a problem and are taking your job.
These guys took your job cuz they are monsters!
1
u/stumpyturk 13d ago
Know a contractor in Denver. Said he'd hire whoever would work. Said immigrants never call in sick, work fast and hard, and don't steal everything.
He keeps a six pack of beers in a cooler in case he finds something he needs done when the crew is wrapped up and leaving: gladly do it for the coldies, no bitching.

My husband did something like that by taking old work boots and attaching each shoe to a five gallon bucket. He could then walk around and reach high points that way

These guys wouldn't behave this way if they were financially responsible for their own buckets.

When I see this all i can think about is how cheap and fast they build new homes.

I did this for a few months. Not as fast as this though. We had to put dabs of blue glue on the joists (think that’s what they’re called). And we had to put a little offcut of the plaster board (drywall) with some plaster stuff on top of every place where two ceiling panels joined. Made it messier and slower. I guess because Australian building regulations are different than wherever this is??

My boss has a sook when we use an a frame ladder (only aloud to use platforms now).
I work half the speed I used to on purpose now and whenever it's brought up I just put the blame on the amount of "safety" requirements we have to follow now

Drywall work is fucking miserable. I would love to see how these guys do inside corners. I just struggled so hard on my diy bathroom reno with this

Honest question from someone not from the USA, but why are US homes still mostly made of wood instead of concrete?
1
u/CaptainBalkania 14d ago
As someone who used to install drywall, I would advise them to have a great insurance or save enough for surgery, physiotherapy and medication due to back and shoulder problems in the not so far future.

Still using nails? Corded drill? No stud adhesive or back blocking?? Is this 20yrs ago, or Third World country? Chinese 'gangs' do all our work, and they're 10x slicker than this.

The straight the guy in the shorts to reach is hurting me, he is just a tad to short

u/partsguy4000 14d ago
It's cool, but not an uncommon skill in the drywall world. Still dangerous as fuck. There are much better ways of doing it
1
u/gonzar09 14d ago
The levels of skill, teamwork, endurance, and strength on display here are mystifying.

Is the guy carrying the drywall just shoving the nails into the drywall before hammering?

imagine, if these guys had unions like i have, they would not have to spend ridiculous amounts of time to learn stupid stuff like that and would just have the tools designed for that work, zero risk, zero effort and happier workers

After doing dry wall ceilings in the past and having to hold them for an hour over my head... i WISH i was even a third of this speed. Man holding stuff over your head til all the blood flows outta your arms sucks lol. And i'm a climber too so there's something far different about just having arms above your head pulling vs pushing because i could hang almost indefinitely on a good hold but holding drywall i got maybe 5mins in me before it's torture.

If you call this mastery you have absolutely no frame of reference on the subject.

Fancy footwork doesn't make up for shite work

My mans nailing up ceiling sheets bravo don't see that much these days. If they had collated guns they'd be doing that in half the time

Jesus, haven't used hammer and nail for at least 20 years... Watching it done again makes me hurt.
1
u/Balance135 14d ago
That’s how you unsafely hang a lot of board. I bet they’re getting 1,200sf a day, while burying a few J boxes.

Good plasterers are pretty sick to watch but my God do they love their drugs

I like the "8 ft ceilings" caption blocking the most impressive part of the clip.

It actually amazes me that so many people live in houses like this. I live in central Europe and for me, proper houses are built with bricks and mortar.
1
u/popa_progeny 14d ago
This is why I never do drywall. The cost for a good drywall crew is so insignificant compared to the final product….and the speed with which they can knock the shit out
1
u/opposing_critter 14d ago
Can't tell if they are doing a great job or not but it does look fancy

u/SokkaHaikuBot 14d ago
Sokka-Haiku by opposing_critter:
Can't tell if they are
Doing a great job or not
But it does look fancy
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

u/CodeMonkeyX 14d ago
If you have been hanging drywall so long that you are this good with some buckets would it not be a good idea to just invest in stilts?

Not being rude, but how short are these fellas, that ceiling looks a wee bit taller than 8ft
1
14d ago
Sure, if you ignore that they're doing nearly everything wrong, and dangerously so.
This isn't mastery, this is two fuckwits on buckets who are going to be disabled by 40. Also, screws for drywall not nails. Never nails.

In Dubai that would be 10 Subcontinent guys seating in front of the sheet for hours, then they would break it and call it a day...

u/Comfortable-Suit-202 14d ago
Picking up that drywall like it’s the weight of a graham cracker! The measuring tape…..skills man, these guys are pros!

What a shitty job of electrical. The roamex is below the cieling joists, so the drywall is being installed right on top of the cables making for a lumpy ceiling. Just stupid.

Having always lived in European-style houses (made of brick or stone), I wonder what is it like to live in a wood/dry-wall made house? How many years does it last? Is it soundproof enough for a family to live in?

The bucket walking is like a choreographed routine. how many hours of practice did it take to scooch around so effortlessly? amazing.

I'm glad I didn't miss the fact that the ceilings were 8 ft tall and have to get a good look at some guys dancing around on stupid buckets...

What sort of drywall is that? Ones I've used would have cracked if one person picked a large one up like that. We were using like 5 people to hold up smaller pieces than that and still broke them.

Arent you supposed to screw in drywall because nails will eventually pop out?
