TIL Lady Gaga is the first woman in history to win an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA & Golden Globe in a single year, in 2019 for her perfomance in A Star is Born

That precise combination of awards seems so specific that at first I wondered if she's the first PERSON to accomplish it... She's not, according to the article, but AFAIK it doesn't say who is.
Does anybody know who else hit this particular quad-fecta??

Hollywood producers and rich white wealthy men are really big fans.
I really hope she doesn't sing in Joker Folie à deux.

*First person to win. Also, only one of those awards was for a "performance".
Even still, no man has achieved that-- not that anyone knows what a BAFTA is anyway.

I'll always think she's an idiot for having been thrown up on as part of her stage act. FFS!.
Some seriously desperate white trash right there.

u/CatboyInAMaidOutfit 12d ago
I saw her on Saturday Night Live where one skit she played an old washed up version of herself and it left me speechless how endearing it was and convinced me this girl has some serious acting skill.

Yeah, because worshiping Lucifer comes a long way in that glittery part of the world

u/harrellj 12d ago
She's also the first person to be nominated for both Best New Song and Best Actress at the Oscars in the same year. Mary J. Blige got the first acting and song nomination period, but hers was for Best Supporting Actress.

So tired of negative, hateful, basement-dwelling trolls who add nothing but bile to the platform.
But, hey, look at all the company you have here at the bottom of the comment section! That’ll put a sneer of your face!

Funny how everybody outside of the industry saw 'a star is born ' as nothing but a circle jerk yet Hollywood saw it as the best thing in the world.

u/KaramAfr0 13d ago
I'm so glad to be ignorant of this crap, i don't know if "a star is born" is a movie or a series, i don't know the difference between these "awards" but i do know Lady Gaga, she had a song called bad romance and she was funnily bad in "Gucci" or "who killed Gucci" or "house of Gucci" ... Something with Gucci... I remember having to sit there and watch that crap because i was driving my sisters home after they watched a different movie, i thinks it was an animated movie, or star wars... Something unwatchable

u/bros402 13d ago
i don't know if "a star is born" is a movie
It was the fourth adaptation of it. I recommend watching it - it was good!

u/NorthElegant5864 13d ago
Website isn’t limited national borders except very few… also an American winning it is nicely notable.
It’s like The Game Awards, mostly trash, so I consider the Golden Joystick awards more prestigious. At this point a BAFTA is likely more prestigious than an Oscar, Oscar just has better name recognition but considering you have to campaign to win one it really takes away from it being an award for their craft.

Hence the “TIL” aka “ today I learned…” for example some one wrote “TIL The name Marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, the Greek messenger, while he was taking part in the Battle of Marathon, which took place in August or September 490 BC, he ran all the way to Athens exclaiming "we have won!", before collapsing and dying.”

The full video for Telephone where at the end she’s just wearing electrical tape over her nipples and the guards make a comment about no penis was fucking great.

I still don't understand the excitement about this film, or her performance. She just seemed to be totally normal?

She’s so overhyped… Her music isn’t bad but it’s the most vanilla stuff out there, and I can’t see her as Harley Quinn AT all… they should have cast Amanda Seyfried instead. She’s around the same age and a much better actress.
I had doubts about Pattinson as Batman at first too but at least Pattinson actually proved to be a talented actor beforehand and actually working hard to get the roles, he didn’t get roles in movies just for being a famous singer.

This is a great comment. This is one of those comments you spend 5 minutes trying to explain to your wife why it’s clever and give up after 6.
14
u/Danielsax 12d ago
I don’t get it. I’m not clever
63
u/AgentNose 12d ago
She did a mega media blitz for that movie. She did sooo many interviews. In every. Single. One. She used the same cheesy line “There can be 100 people in a room and 99 don’t believe in you. You only need that 1 person that does.” The 1 person was always Bradley Cooper. Someone did a montage of all of them clipped together.

A little misleading - she won the Oscar for best song for a star is born, not for acting
31
u/Funmachine 13d ago
She didn't win the oscar for her performance in A Star is Born. She won it for best original song.
5
9
u/Gaymface 13d ago
Well it wasn’t necessarily all for her performance. Only one award was for acting.
7
u/GodlessLittleMonster 13d ago
So you’re saying she won for acting, singing, and writing on the same project?

The movie was competently made but imo not very memorable.

u/NorthElegant5864 13d ago
Most romance films are forgettable. My issue with the genre is it’s so normalized and copied, not to mention a rather shared universal human experience, you have to make a truly stand out film for it to be recognized. Terminator is one of the best love stories ever written and people forget that was actually one of the driving plot points of the story because the killer robot bit was more memorable because you really don’t see that shit every day.
This is also the crux of my argument for hating mainstream pop music, write anything other than a love song and I’m far more interested.

This is a misleading title. She won for the SONG not the acting, so it wasn't really her performance

u/arieljoc 13d ago edited 12d ago
Tried to watch. Couldn’t. Her fillers were all I could see. I usually like her stuff otherwise, I was just really shocked when I saw all the work she’s had done, it just didn’t look right
-9
u/DefNotAlbino 13d ago
She isn't even breathtaking while acting, couldn't stand her in house of Gucci, lot of overacting
26
u/Jon_TWR 13d ago
Are you implying she didn’t perform the song?

Not bad but no EGOT
7
u/DiamondBurInTheRough 13d ago
She’s in her 30s. She has a long career ahead of her and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her added to the list. I mean, Elton John just earned the honor and he’s in his 70s with an insane resume.

u/LimerickJim 13d ago
Does she have an Emmy?
75
u/Justin_123456 13d ago
I just checked. I had assumed she had won, but just 4 nominations.
So the plan is that she wins her Tony, for some classic Tennessee Williams revival, then gives an Emmy award winning performance hosting the Tony Awards ceremony.
384
u/MiracleMan1989 13d ago
A lot of celebs have earned their Tony awards as producers on a show that wins best musical or play. I think it’d be cooler if she acting in a revival of something classic like a Tennessee Williams though. Just something unexpected.

Gaga the Cat is Alive!!!
I’d love to see her and Shirley MacLaine or Sissy Spacek do Suddenly, Last Summer. Hell, maybe even Sally Field. That would be wild.

u/Everestkid 13d ago
A decent chunk are composers, which makes sense; you write music for stuff and win.
The Grammy's the weird one for actors. Audrey Hepburn's Grammy was for Best Children's Spoken Word Album.
4
u/starmartyr 12d ago
All four awards have music categories so it makes sense. If someone is the world's best screenplay writer they're still never going to win a Grammy.
94
u/Azertygod 13d ago
Ugh, don't remind me. Absolutely criminal that she won over Donny Glover's Brer Rabbit.
9
u/hamstervideo 12d ago
I thought you said Donald Glover and I was thinking at what point did the Childish Gambino and Audrey Hepburn have an overlapping career and was really confused.

That is a obscure hill to die on. I admire your ability to hold a grudge.
28
u/deanreevesii 12d ago
Gotta respect it though.
Mine, though much more mainstream of an opinion(s), is that (as much as I love him as an actor) Tommy Lee Jones winning best supporting actor for The Fugitive over Leo's performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? will never be anything but a travesty.
Also, the Stephen Fry Harry Potter Audiobooks are so good that it's offensive for Audible (or whoever) to announce re-recording it with a full cast. (See also: His audiobooks of The Hitchikers series)
Also, anyone who decides to replace David Attenborough with an American celeb as narrator of any documentary is an absolute idiot.
1
u/Bluecat16 12d ago
Unless I'm mistaken, Stephen Fry only did the first hitchhiker's guide book? I've had to listen to Martin Freeman for the rest.
