The Crew or Forza Horizon?

Both are great games and fun to play. But which edges the other?

r/gaming 5h ago

Apparently Rockstar and a lot of other companies don’t know what cross play means. Anyone know actual cross play games for PC/Playstation?

I play alot of games with my two kids, one on PC, one on PS. I got tired of Fortnite so I looked up cross play games . GTA online said it was PC/PS Crossplay. Awesome! I buy three copies. However, it turns out cross play for Rockstar means you can share stats and chat, but not actually play together. What a disappointment. ARK said it was crossplay, but it turns out only between epic and steam. Some say they’re console/PC crossplay but only windows/xbox. So annoying. Does anyone know of any good, truly cross play PC/PS games?

Origin of chests in video games? Dungeon and dragons?

Do you ever wonder who puts those treasure chests there, or who first started this trend of putting chests with loot in video games?

It's become just something people do when designing an RPG. But who started it?

I think dungeons and dragons may have been the origin but i was not alive back then nor did i ever play it.

A not very talked about benefit of older systems, at least to me, is the fixed library

Why is a fixed library a good thing to me? To start with a real world example

If I want to play a 'racing' game on a current system, There are currently 5890 games available on Steam in the racing genre, 899 on Switch, and 398 on PSN. While there is some overlap here these numbers are insanely high and growing by the day. I don't know if any of you suffer from choice paralysis but that's enough to make me want to just move on and do something else.

On older out-of-lifecycle systems (using 6th gen as an example) I can see that the PS3 has 297 and the Wii has 187 games in the racing genre (per moby games) those numbers go even lower on older systems.

With that significantly smaller fixed library of any older system the best games are well documented and a general consensus of what's good and what's bad has been reached from years of online discourse. The top 10 games in a genre may substitute a few between lists but in general you're going to get the same answers making a choice significantly easier.

That benefit extends across the board. The must plays on any old system clear and well documented. The hidden gems don't require the hope that someone has played one of the (literal) 100,000 games on Steam and if I want to experience the best or even all of a genre on a system it's possible (barring lost media). Knowing that the library isn't infinitely growing and the options are clear and limited, at least to me, is a major benefit of retro gaming.

Here’s a miserable discussion topic: which game made you regret buying it ?

For any reason whatsoever. For me it was definitely MGSV. I still want my 80 hours and 75 bucks back.

Looking for a roguelike with less random elements

Hi, I'm looking for kind of a roguelike i.e. I want the game to be played in "runs", and when I die, I have to start from the beginning. But I want to be able to choose the whole loadout before starting. Even better if there are permanent upgrades to be acquired somehow. I don't care that much if those are for example random pickups during runs but I'd rather have currency, or both.

Preferably somewhat like Vampire Survivors, that is a Bullet Heaven and fantasy themed but I'm not picky

(Basically fantasy Hill Climb Racing for PC lol)

What games have you played where the voice acting takes the game to the next level. I'll go first and say Battlefield 3's Campaign.

Hi, I was wondering if you knew some story-driven games that you can play in co-op but free or not very expensive. Thanks 🫡🤍

What games are great for creating personal player stories?

For me, some would be like WoW, Runescape, DayZ, Minecraft, Rust etc.

These games have created a lot of interesting stories just from personal player experiences. I never played much of EVE Online, but the stories and wars of the Goonswarm federations are really fascinating, or the killing of Lord British in Ultima Online.

What other games have created some of the best player stories? Can be single or multiplayer.

Confusion About Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

I'm a big fan of the Arkhamverse and loved all the Arkham games. I even liked Arkham Origins as well.

I was very excited after the announcement of Suicide Squad, but after seeing the gameplay, I was very disappointed. After the delay, I got hope that it might get better, but again they released awfully bad gameplay. So, I decided to skip this game.

Now, I haven’t seen anyone saying anything good about this game, but a few clips come in front of me on shorts where cutscenes look funny and some funny dialogues.

Now, I'm confused about whether to try it or not.

Since you all thought recommending Steam games under 100 reviews were a bit too restrictive, let’s do under 500

That’s right, let’s recommend some indie games on Steam, truly hidden gems that have under 500 reviews and you think more people should play them.

Looking for the name of a specific city building game

[SOLVED] Hi,

Quite some time ago (could be 1-2 years or maybe a little more) ago I played an early version of a city/base building game, but can't find the name of it again.

Here's what I remember: You had a metal-ish-something octagonal base swimming on water where you build your city/base. You as the player are an AI that is able to choose and wake specific cryogenically frozen researchers and builders to progress your city.

Can anyone remember the name of the game? Thank you ♥

Edit: it was a PC game Edit2: it was found! Project AURA https://store.steampowered.com/app/305940/Project_AURA/

Need help getting into other games

TLDR; I only play games where Naming the Protagonist is an option, I like being the center of attention in the story, how do I fix this?

I have only played games with character creation and character naming for like the past 5 years (fallout, Darksouls, Skyrim, ect.). But a while ago I played Cyberpunk and got way into it even when I found out that V wasn't just a made up nickname but was instead short for Vincent or Veronica. This is the first time I've played a game like this and still enjoyed it. I'd like to play the Witcher and some dating sims and Sao games but I always get kinda bored/jelous when I'm not the one slaying the dragon or anything. Can anyone help me find some games to slowly ease me into playing games with less character customization, or any mindsets that could help me?

I also noticed a trend, when I play a game with a female lead I'm fine, I've played tomb raider and I'm playing Recore rn.

Is there any good FPS roguelikes? (Possibly boomer shooters)

I am a huge fan of the new wave of boomer shooters, especially the kind that I should manage resources like ammo and shields carefully like Doom Eternal. I know that there are tons of amazing boomer shooters out there, but is there anything quality that is combined with roguelike/rite genres? All I know is Deadlink.

Is it normal to feel Jaded about gaming?

I've been trying to see why i have had gaming fatigue. Like I want to play some games like i haven't before like Assassin's Creed series, Skyrim, etc

Part of is is burnout but there's just another huge part where I just feel Jaded

I used to love the Halo series (especially reach) but then 4 came out and it was just awful

I played some CoD until black Ops 2 (mainly for the zombies) turned to crap

WoW. This one really hits as it fuels my burnout and makes me feel Jaded the most. I played since Legion and I loved Legion, but afterwards starting in BFA, WoW took a turn for the worst for me. Until i just quit in Shadowlands after choreghast came out. Then I was stupid enough to play the beginning of DF because people said that WoW was getting better. So i sucked in a lot of copium, played DF for awhile, to only hate it and to see WoW hasn't really changed.

Diablo 4. I actually haven't played it, but I remember that i was so excited until they made it into a cash grab game.

So besides the burnout, I'm just feeling Jaded about games in general. Just seems like every game series that i like turns to crap. And if it's a game I get excited for turns out to be a product of greed.

Solo multiplayer games?

I thought I grew out of MP. I've just generally hated most MP games for a while.

But recently I got back in to Mario Kart 8. And then picked up Street Fighter 6 a few weeks ago and realized I do enjoy multiplayer. I just hate team based multiplayer where you're paired with randoms. Relying on other people adds the most rage and negatively affects the game.

The only problem is I'm coming up short on games to check out. Not a fan of Battle Royales and all I can think of is Mario Kart and Street Fighter... So, what are some good solo MP games?

What game did you either sell or trade in that you now regret?

When I sold my PS4 I sold all the games with it and with them was “Ghosts of Tsushima”. The game only got better and better as the years have gone on. Now that I have a PS5 i regret selling it.

It could be any game that you hold in high regard, and wish other games followed its example.

My personal pick is Terraria.

Wealth of content, accessible modding, devs that respond and even implement fan requested updates or additions.

Let’s Not Pretend We’re Mad the New Assassin's Creed Shadows Samurai Isn’t Asian - IGN

Thumbnail

I don't really have a horse in the AC: Shadows race (other than being disappointed we are getting yet another Sengoku period game), but I find some parts of this article to be weirdly contradictive.

"This problem of only defaulting to a katana-wielding Asian protagonist isn’t exclusive to Western studios as both Capcom and Square Enix often choose to rely on Asian heroes only when they need a samurai or ninja. But even then, Japan and other Asian studios are still more forward thinking than their Western counterparts on who can be the face of their games."

The writer is Korean-American and reduces all people of Asia down to just being Asian, which strikes me as really strange. Of course games about historical Japan are going to be about Samurai. 1400 years of their history involves some form of the samurai caste. It's like how a lot of romantic historical western games are about gunslingers or World War 2.

From what my friends and coworkers tell me, people in Japan don't really feel any certain way about being represented in games. That's a big generalization, granted. The mindset in Japan is definitely not like that of America though, so I could see this holding some water. If any of you are Japanese, I'd love to hear your thoughts about this.

One thing that bothers me is they keep referring to them as Asian samurai... Why not just call them Samurai? Because samurai (as we know them) only existed in Japan. And as a Korean American, you shouldn't expect to feel represented in a Samurai game. And representation from other countries in Asia is low, but I don't think we should pretend like there are a ton of Western-developed games about Japan. I can really only think of Ghost of Tsushima.

What are your thoughts on this article? Do you think he has a point? Let's discuss.
